"How blessed is this night,
when earth and heaven are joined
and man is reconciled to God"
On this most holy night, in which our Lord Jesus passed over from death to life, the Church dispersed throughout the world gathers to wait and to pray. For this is the Passover of the Lord, in which, by hearing his Word and sharing holy food and drink, we share in his victory over death. So we gather together. We gather together and eat together and wait, because our deliverer has come very near.

I love the icon. May I ask where you found it?
This icon is a minor revision of a fairly classic eastern icon. You can always tell Jesus in icons because he's the one with the Senatorial stripe on the shoulder.
He's helping Mary and Joseph out of their graves. Mary is always wearing red as the theotokos. In the original icon, Jesus is helping Jesus out and sort of resting his foot on Mary. In the revised version, he's helping both out at the same time.
Notice also the angular lines. Unlike modern perspective art, the "vanishing point" is the seer's eye, not the horizon, like a portal to the infinite looking outward.
A google image search for "resurrection icon." Alan taught me. ;0)
Ryan, the website I read said the figures being helped out of the grace were Adam and Eve. I quite enjoy the theological point; I don't claim to know anything about iconography, however. :-)
I'm glad I got to be a part of Saturday night.
Very refreshing.
You Googled it huh? And I thought you knew of some cool website somewhere full of icons. :-)
It is definitely Adam and Eve and not Mary and Joseph.
