Uh oh. A Rant.

William Temple

Ahem.

Hm, evolution and stuff, at Real Live Preacher. Nice essay (HT: Addison Road).

Oh, and I don't use swear words much, but I have absolutely no moral qualms about using them. Just so you know.

If you cared. But you know what's sad? I've seen seminarians who don't know shit about Christology argue about that to the point of ridiculousness. Stupids. People are all too happy to offend the people they think are pagans by packaging their version of the gospel in the most offensive ways imaginable, but all hell will come down on you if you dare to use a naughty word and offend some white-haired old biddy who loves the Lord. Or doesn't love the Lord, for that matter.

Hm, I think it's bedtime.

Yeah, Tony Campolo has been known to say something like this:

“I have three things I'd like to say today. First, while you were sleeping last night, 30,000 kids died of starvation or diseases related to malnutrition. Second, most of you don't give a s%!#. What's worse is that you're more upset with the fact that I said s%!# than the fact that 30,000 kids died last night”.

One of the things that kills me is how YEC's insist that an old earth contradicts a literal reading of the Bible. If they were consistent, though, then shouldn't they also be flat-earthers and geocentricists?

Markus, I like you. I don't know you, but I like you.

And Kyle, why is it so funny to me when you use foul language...but it's not when other people do? I don't get it.

It's because I'm hilarious, Allison. :0)

Thanks, Markus. I hope you've enjoyed your convention.

Josh, what's really going to get you about the YECs one day will be their compounds full of semi-automatic weapons.

What? Did I just compare young earth creationists to Branch Davidians? I think I did...

Not to start a huge YEC debate, but exactly what YEC's have you read? The age of the earth issue deals with how they interpret the genre of Genesis and specifically what the authors were trying to do with genealogies. Whatever you may think of their science, they aren't so stupid as to read something in revelation about four corners of the earth and be flat earthers. That straw leaves a nasty stench.

Kyle, I love you like a fat kid loves cake but I think you go far sometimes with your comparisons. However, I have not met the YECs you have, so maybe there's something I dunno, but it just seems harsh.

I'm sorry, Rob. I was making a (tasteless) joke. I've not met any YECs, only visited one of their museums. (It was two trailers in Texas.) I apologize and repent. Seriously. I have no reason to believe that YECs want to kill me, and it was an irresponsible thing to say.

I'll leave Josh to any discussion of the content. He's got some recent commentary on it here.

Cheers.
