Living the Good News...

... as a counter-imperial metanarrative.

What does it mean to embody the news that Jesus is Lord of the whole earth? Particularly against our individualistic consumer society, it would mean that we understand ourselves not as individuals seeking to make our way in the world, but members of the Body of Christ. What are the deliberate practices of belonging to one another that post-modern American Christians are engaging in?

What are some of the ways that Christians are telling that story as a holistic, life-changing movement rather than just another way of thinking private thoughts about God?

Hey Kyle,

Hope you're doing well. Your comment about "private thoughts about God" reminded me of something Eugene Peterson mentioned in his "Reversed Thunder" book concerning the Eucharist. It's by nature supposed to be a collective event by God's people, but I notice that at my church it's more of a private everyone gets his own little piece of the bread and a little cup while the organist plays. Then I, at least, pray and ask for forgiveness for sins to not take the Lord's Supper unworthily. It's all very detached, it seems, and very 'private.'

Just thought I'd share that.

God bless you, man!

Yeah, that individualist stuff kills me.

Always good to hear from you. :-)
