Patriotism

This is a present for my British friends, I want to make sure you know about this song.

It's so... patriotic. And beautiful. I mean, how can you not love America?

You need to realize that this song was extremely popular when it was released in the early days after 9/11.
Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue (The Angry American)

American girls and American guys will always stand up and salute;
Will always recognize
When we see ol' glory flying,
There's a lot of men dead,
So we can sleep in peace at night when we lay down our head.

My daddy served in the army,
Where he lost his right eye.
But he flew a flag out in our yard 'til the day that he died.
He wanted my mother, my brother, my sister and me
To grow up and live happy in the land of the free.

Now this nation that I love has fallen under attack.
A mighty sucker punch came flying in from somewhere in the back.
Soon as we could see clearly through our big black eye,
Man we lit up your world like the Fourth of July.

Chorus
Hey Uncle Sam put your name at the top of his list,
And the Statue of Liberty started shaking her fist.
And the eagle will fly,
And there's gonna be Hell,
When you hear Mother Freedom start ringing her bell!
It's gonna feel like the whole wide world is raining down on you...
Brought to you courtesy of the Red, White and Blue!

Oh, Justice will be served and the battle will rage.
This big dog will fight when you rattle his cage
You'll be sorry that you messed with the US of A
'Cuz we'll put a boot in your ass
It's the American way.

Repeat chorus. Like, a hundred times.

That's freakin hilarious. Roger Jasper, Justin Mullikin, Jarrod Lopez, and myself were laughing at this song in Waffle House just last night. The juke box was right under a God Bless America poster. Now Roger and Justin hate America; I would say I'm not quite to that point yet, but its songs like these that make me laugh at our great nation. America is becoming increasingly redneck, and not in a Southern heritage kind of way...

...Things that make you go "uuughhhhh".

WTF! I was making up this little tune and imaginig it with a bad western "draaawel." Like in Montana.

This is where I draw on my canadian heritage...

That's what "Christian Nations" do right? Put boots in people asses?

That is pretty special, if only we had something like that for over here after 7/7. Maybe I can make millions writing it, leave the church to get out there to promote revenge attacks under the heading 'we'll put a boot in your ass'.

Or I can just sit here and be proud to be British, no that doesn't work either. I'll stick with the church.....

Adam, you Brits just aren't patriotic enough. I don't see why you don't love America more. I mean, it's a Christian nation. Political support should be a no-brainer, to say nothing of patriotic song-writing.

Oh well. Maybe next term I can teach you about our revered cultural tradition of putting boots in peoples asses (as Robbie mentioned).

I have news, Alan: this song is already on your iTunes.

Jeremy, I can't believe you hang out with people who hate America. Every time I see Roger, I ask him, "Roger, how can you hate America?

Mike, I don't blame you for being born Canadian. Everybody has a skeleton in their closet somewhere.

Oh, Britain knows about being a "Christian nation" quite a bit more than we do I think - ask where it got them.

Well, at least the song doesn't say anything about it being the Christian thing to do. Maybe if we just view the song as venting, then it's not so disturbing? I mean... sure it's still pretty odd because you can't write, edit, correct, rewrite, and publish a song on the spur of the moment... So, yes he's getting rich off of vengeance and hatred and such. Bah... The whole thing is confused.

So, good post Kyle. Oh well.

Adam, I guess you'd have to do a bit of a rewrite and make it "we'll shove a wellie in your bum"... It'd be interesting to see you make that rhyme...

OMG. Wow. Speechless.

Once I've heard the tune I'll do a rewrite - I'm pretty sure I can get "we'll shove a wellie in your bum" to rhyme!

I feel it is valid exercise to help boost my patriotic feeling towards Britain and will probably help me love America more. Plus I'm writing an extended essay and I just want to do something mindless.....

See, now that's scholarship!
